Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), more commonly known as ‘Tapping’ is an effective tool in releasing negative thoughts, feelings and troubling memories by bringing them into consciousness. By affecting all three levels - body, soul and mind - Tapping successfully blends energy work, body awareness, and mindfulness. 

EFT is like an emotional version of acupuncture and works by stimulating energy points on the surface of the skin (by tapping on them) which, when paired with specific psychological procedures, can realign the body’s energy system. It involves gentle, calming techniques, where you also tap or massage acupuncture points on your hands, face and body. Research now shows that when you tap on these meridian points, the stress response in your body (the sympathetic nervous system) winds down as you shift to the relaxation response (the parasympathetic nervous system). That means you are actually sending calming messages to the amygdala, the fight, flight, freeze, or stress centre, of your brain.

 

EFT is used to effectively release inner pain, anxiety, depression, negative emotions such as anger, sadness, fear, guilt, shame, and resentment, as well as stress, overwhelm, trauma, post-traumatic stress, addictions and phobias. In addition, EFT is also successfully used to change negative thinking patterns and unhelpful beliefs.
